Nascar Nationwide at the Milwaukee Mile

This Saturday evening, the NASCAR Nationwide series made it’s annual visit to the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, WI.  I thought it would be a good idea to see what the fuss is all about.  About 3 pm we left the house to begin our tailgate party.  15 minutes later, we were parked and ready to begin our ascend into NASCARness.  Our first order was to unpack the car….unbeknownst to my guests (My wife, Pops and his wife) the grill had yet to be assembled.  In fact, it was still sealed nicely in it’s package.  No fret, we put it together in no time.

Thankfully my Dad was up for the dirty work.  Once the grill was deemed functionable, we decided it was time to relax and enjoy a few cold beverages.

This was damn near empty by the time we were track side.  Ya know it’s too bad….from the looks of my cooler, you can tell I enjoy Miller Lite.  Most of you know Milwaukee is the home of Miller Lite.  Well I’ll be damned if Budweiser wasn’t the title sponsor of the Milwaukee Mile track.  I thought it was hilarious.  The folks of NASCAR fandom didn’t necessarily agree with me.  I heard a lot of grumbling…..on the bright side they could still spark up a Winston whenever convenient.  Unfortunately, ‘The Mile’ doesn’t have designated smoking sections.

So the most fun part of a NASCAR event has to be the people watching.  Since my wife could give a rats ass about the race, I thought it would be fun to make sport of people watching.  We traded off taking pictures of interesting looking people.  Here are a few….

(this idiot cheered and pointed at his favorite car every single time.  on a funny note, he fell over that fence about waist high in front of him and did a face plant on the concrete.  He got up and was fine…..I’m sure he’s feeling that about now.  He was very hammered!)

(this feller won the Richard Petty look-a-like contest)

(my wife thought this was funny hair.  I guess she has a scrunchy?)

(this is the weirdest looking couple at the track…’er wait thats my wife and I and it looks like were having a good time)

So after a long day of building grills, drinking, people watching and car racing, I deduce that races are a damn good time.  We’ll chalk it up as a warm-up for the baseball stadium tour that starts on Wednesday night in Detroit.  I hope to bring many more great pictures and hopefully some better stories than this post.
